About Brooke
Brooke Tansley is a nonprofit founder, storyteller, and creative strategist with over 30 years of experience in arts, media, and community-building. She has led and supported the growth of multiple arts and education-focused startups, most notably Folklight, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through authentic storytelling.
A lifelong believer in the power of networks and narrative, Brooke’s journey into contests began in childhood, when she and her brother filled out over 3,000 paper entries by hand — winning their family an all-expenses-paid trip to Walt Disney World. That early experience of strategy, grit, and a little magic has stayed with her ever since.
Brooke’s fundraising work has helped support theatre companies, film projects, and education initiatives across the country. She has worn every hat from Executive Director to event producer, publicist, and grant writer, always with a focus on building genuine relationships and making big dreams accessible.
A former Broadway actor who attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Brooke blends creativity and systems-thinking with a
deep love of community. Whether she’s running a nonprofit campaign or organizing a neighborhood storytelling night, she believes in empowering people to show up for each other — and that, with the right plan, almost anything is possible.
