SPONSORSHIP*

A different approach.

My approach to sponsorship is intentionally different from much of what you’ll find in the influencer and creator space.

I use a model inspired by NPR and public-media underwriting: sponsors support my independent work and, in return, receive brief, clearly identified recognition within that work.

The value to sponsors is association with the work and recognition before an engaged audience - not the purchase of my personal opinion.

I do not offer paid personal endorsements, scripted testimonials, or content designed around selling a sponsor’s product. A sponsorship does not purchase my opinion, my enthusiasm, or influence over what I choose to talk about.

Instead, sponsors help make it possible for me to continue creating thoughtful, freely
accessible work about community, work, culture, creativity, and better ways of doing life. Sponsors support the work. They do not shape the work.

This approach is rooted in the same fundamental distinction NPR makes between
sponsorship and traditional commercial advertising: sponsor messages should
respect the intelligence of the audience, inform rather than pressure, avoid
unsupported claims, and remain clearly distinct from independent content.

A sponsorship might sound like: Support for this work comes from [Sponsor].

That acknowledgment can include a brief, factual description of what the sponsor does and where people can learn more.

The sponsor gets meaningful visibility and association with work its customers value. I retain complete editorial independence.

*Sponsorships will become active at 10,000 followers, conservatively projected for Spring/Summer 2027.

THE PRINCIPLES

Independence is the point.

Editorial independence

Sponsors don't choose my topics, approve my conclusions, or influence my point of view.

Clear recognition

Sponsorship is always clearly identified and kept distinct from editorial content.

No paid personal endorsements

A sponsor cannot purchase my personal opinion, a testimonial, or manufactured enthusiasm for a product.

Inform, don't pressure

Sponsor messages are factual and restrained - not aggressive sales pitches, artificial urgency, or attacks on competitors.

Limited partnerships

I'd rather develop a small number of meaningful, longer-term relationships than fill my work with one-off advertisements.

OPPORTUNITIES

Support independent work - and help keep useful things free.

Partnerships can support individual videos, an ongoing series, a defined body of work, or free public resources.

Short-Form Underwriting

Brief sponsor recognition attached to original short-form work distributed across my social platforms.

Series Sponsorship

Support for a defined group of videos or a month of work, with consistent recognition throughout the series.

Free-Resource Underwriting

Support for guides, tools, research, and other resources so people can use them without paying an admission price.

Founding Support

Help launch a new resource or initiative and receive recognition as a founding supporter of that defined project or edition.

KEEPING FREE THINGS FREE

Some of the best sponsorship opportunities may not look like ads at all.

I'm particularly interested in working with sponsors who can help make useful resources freely available.

For example, a sponsor might underwrite a free Do Life Together guide and receive recognition in the guide, on its download page, and during its launch.

The acknowledgment might simply explain:

This free resource is made possible with support from [Sponsor].

The sponsor helps thousands of people access something useful. The resource remains independent. Nobody has to buy anything to participate.

That's the kind of relationship between commerce and community I'm interested in building.

PARTNER FIT

Support is not endorsement.

Sponsors don't have to agree with every idea I explore. But the partnership does need to be compatible with the integrity of the work and appropriate for the people who follow it.

Potential partners span food and grocery, home and garden, financial wellbeing, family life, travel, communications, education, culture, community development, and other parts of ordinary life.

I don't accept sponsorship from political campaigns or parties, ballot campaigns, gambling, tobacco or nicotine, multi-level marketing companies, predatory financial products, or brands making dubious or unsupported health claims.

And I reserve the right to decline a partnership when accepting it could reasonably undermine the audience's trust in the work.
